Thanks for the quick answer. I tried your recipe, but ran into problems: when executing the first line I had to answer a set of queries, to which I answered with "N". I'm not sure that is correct. However, after the second line I received the message
Error: cannot mount filesystem: Input/output error
Perhaps that is because I already have the /mnt/hgfs directory because I have retained my original tools installation (although the hgfs directory is empty). Question: do I have to uninstall the original VMware tools installation?
